Next Play Day coming up in July.~
Saturday 10am –4pm includes 6 colour starter paint & fabric pack..
Stewart Gill…!
Includes 6 colour starter paint & fabric.
~Colours fascinate a lot of us, and these two collections of paints have captured my creative side for a while.
The vivid colours of the ‘True Colour’ are especially for use over dark backgrounds, then the Byzantia paints, also with their strong colours & shine work well to create a contrast.
With designers like Robert Kauffman, Kaffe Fasset & Laurel Burch & artists like ‘Mallet M.K’ I will have lots of stimulation material so you can paint your abstract piece ready to stitch.

You may have seen this piece by me on display in the shop. All painted with Stewart gill & machine quilted.~BecPaint|1054|~688~3018~~

Walk About news~Thank You all for making Broadwindsor Walk About Exhibition a successful event. How can I start to tell to those of you what you missed?
Well I think I am on a mission now to find more ‘Men’ quilters. John Marchem & Roy Dickenson got the most ‘ooohs & wows’ John’s quilts were traditional & hangings had a more contempary approach, I look forward to seeing his latest work.
Some of you may have come across Roy and a talk he does titled ‘A man in a women's world!’ I’m sorry by day 2 the extension lead went walk about for the Fish mobile...yes it does plug in & spin round! The fish complemented my mermaid, (that had had some alterations since the scare crow festival to make her less transvestite & more curvatious!)

The latest issue of ‘The Quilter’ has a lovely article ‘Confessions of a Closet Quilter’ by William Marsh about how his Mum avidly started projects but then lost interest equally avidly. This gave him a chance later on in life to persuade her to part with a UFO to finish. To get a copy of ‘The Quilter’ or find out more information on ‘The Quilters Guild’ call Kate Dowty 01308 423151.

Visitors choice was won by Eileen Loder from Chard with her beautiful hand quilted & appliqué double quilt, the first quilt as you came into the hall. Joint second was Kate with ‘Chilli Peppers & Margaret Hillcox-Smith with her double cream & turquoise pinwheels.

Now ‘UPS & DOWNS’ obviously caused some ups & downs! We had 25 entries but only 8 came in on time! I thought you were all busily sewing over the wet summer? Any way Congratulations goes to Helen Siddall with her Up & Down slash cutting Chenille jacket, I expect more great things with your new sewing machine Helen! 2nd Prize of an ‘Ott-Lite went to Eileen Loder with a captivating hanging, & 3rd prize to Amy Langford from Corfe Mullen with her Snakes & Ladders, counters & dice using the difficult ‘black twinkle’! Well done ever body.

In the Church there were lovely quilts from groups around the counties, including one of the baby quilts that ’All Saints Quilters’ made for Great Ormond street Hospital. Apologies for not sorting out the voting up at the Church first thing, but ’UFO’s’ won visitors choice with a beautiful purple & cream folded patchwork sampler. Well done every one.

Blessed with sunshine every day Walking around the village with quilts on the green, at ‘The Old Place’ as well as in & around the Craft Centre made the atmosphere wonderful. Well will we do it again? I’m sure 2009 will come round too quick!

Look out for details of the competition in the next news letter. Plenty of chance to plan ahead!Welcome to Rumplestiltskin on Saturday 8th Sept. Tanya opened her shop next door to me. With scrummy wools, silk tops, patterns & kits, so next time your over pop into her & say hello! (Oh ahhh! she has 2 pet Alpacas!)

Workshops with Janet Gibbon & Paddy Cosgriff , well, what can I say except I’m sorry to those of you who missed such fantastic informative days!! Such enthusiastic & great tutors, fantastic results to all who attended.
I have had a lesson on STAMP BOARD (on top of the trinket boxes), so look out for my demo in January. Oh & you also missed the Bacon Butties! WE WILL BE DOING THIS AGAIN FOR YOU EARLY BIRDS!~~~688~3009~~

Walk About Exhibition.~BROADWINDSOR WALK ABOUT EXHIBITION.

How did it get started? It started 4 years ago where Ladies from mine & Noreen’s class exhibited their Sampler Quilts cushions & bags. We also had beautiful work from the tutors & pupils from our workshops such as Pat Mummery, Catherine Miller, Jan Roebuck. We served tea & cake, proceeds went to charity. The biannual event will open this year on Thursday 6th September at 10am at the Hall.until Sunday 9th.
In 2003 we raised over £250 for Dorset wildlife trust & £230 for The Renal Association over 4 days, and in 2005 £380 for First Responders over 2 days.
The idea of ‘Walk About’ is a cross between the Australian saying & ‘The airing of Quilts’ held all over the USA. The centre of exhibits will be at ‘Comrades Hall’ in the Village, from there you will be able to wander up to The Church & across to The Craft & Design Centre where there will be more quilts & hangings on display. Weather pending we hope to have some ‘Airing of Quilts’ along route. (Quilts hanging out to air!)~~~688~2984~~
